On Behalf of Youth Award

The "On Behalf of Youth Award" honors individual community members who provide excellent services or activities for youth. One award will be given to an adult and one will be given to a youth. To be eligible to receive the "On Behalf of Youth Award" the nominee must:

Live or work in the YSB's primary service area (ISD #831 and all of Chisago County)
Cannot be a current member of the YSB Staff
Be a positive role model for youth
Break down barriers between youth and adults
Provide enthusiastic leadership to youth above and beyond the call of job duties or on a volunteer basis
Nominees for the youth award must be in grades 9 - 12
A connection to the YSB is preferred

2007 On Behalf of Youth Award Recipient: Mike Brinkman

Mike Brinkman, Scout master of Wyoming, MN Boy Scout Troop 142 received the 2007 On Behalf of Youth Award at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Monday evening, May 19. YSB board member Mike Aschenbrener presented the award to Brinkman while scouts and parents gathered for the annual dinner and scouting awards applauded his leadership and local efforts to ensure the success of youth.

James Trudeau Award

The James Trudeau Law Enforcement Award is presented annually by Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau to a local licensed law enforcement officer living or working in the YSB’s primary service area (Washington and Anoka County communities served by ISD 831 and all of Chisago County) who is a positive role model for youth, breaks down barriers between youth and adults, and shows enthusiasm, leadership, generosity and service to youth above and beyond job duties. The award is named for YSB founder, former Forest Lake Chief of Police, and retired Washington County Sheriff James R. Trudeau.

2007 James Trudeau Law Enforcement Award goes to FLPD Officer Matt Smith

Officer Matt Smith, Forest Lake Police Department, was selected by YSB’s Board of Directors to be honored with the James Trudeau Law Enforcement Award for exemplary service to local youth in 2007. Smith is liaison officer to Forest Lake Area High School. YSB Board Chair Kathy Lillis presented the award to Officer Smith while students were gathered for Forest Lake Area High School’s mock car crash on Wednesday May 21. Chief Clark Quiring accepted a second plaque for Forest Lake Police Department which recognizes Smith’s contributions on behalf of local youth.

Lifetime Achievement Award

The "Lifetime Achievement Award" is given to a community resident in recognition of a lifetime of dedication and commitment to serving youth. It is given at the discretion of the YSB Board of Directors. This award was established in 1999 with the first recipient being Barbara Swanson, retired YSB Executive Director.
