Why?
- To help youth who have community service complete their hours and learn carpentry skills
- To have a platform for adult volunteers to work with youth
- To assist the Youth Service Bureau in it’s fundraising efforts
With log donations coming in from multiple sources, the Shop Night program was able to create a variety of different furniture items that could be given away in exchange for donations to the Youth Service Bureau.
The participating youth and volunteers:
- Learn an old-fashioned carpentry technique of working with logs.
- Take logs donated straight from the woods and turned them into usable furniture.
- Youth gain experience with many aspects of woodworking: working with a draw knife, measuring, marking, using screws, gluing and clamping, sanding and finishing.
- Give back to the community by adding to a Youth Service Bureau fundraising effort.
If you are interested in receiving a log furniture item, in exchange for a donation, please feel free to contact Matt at 651 464-3685 or by e-mail matt.howard@ysblakesarea.org.
Orders for specific items will be taken as time and supplies allow. Contact Matt for more information.
Community members are welcome to stop by the Youth Service Bureau to check out what items we may have in stock and see us in action!
