What is YAB?

The Youth Advisory Board is a year-round Youth Service Bureau program. There are two separate Youth Advisory Boards, one in the Forest Lake Area School District and one in the North Branch Area School District." Youth involved in YAB get to be leaders in their community! YAB brainstorms about what could be done to make the community a better place, then goes out and makes it happen. YAB figures out what special events they might like to have, or different places or charities they might like to help out. A couple projects are picked every year and YAB members and their friends get together and have a blast making the community a better place to live. This group is also the core group from which the Youth Service Bureau draws volunteers for Safety Camp, community festivals, and a variety of other YSB needs.

"North Branch YAB: Open to youth in grades 7-12

Forest Lake YAB: Open to youth in grades 7-12.

"You have the ability to make the community a better place Come see what you can do!

In Our Own Words

Real YAB members talk about how they describe YAB, why they are involved in the program, and why you should join, too!

Why I am involved

I am involved in the YAB group because I get to meet new people, help the community, be there for young kids, bring families together and it helps me meet different speakers and families in the community. I am involved with the YAB group at the YSB because I like making a difference in peoples lives!

Why I joined YAB

I joined YAB (at first) because it would look good on a my college transcript. But when I actually saw what we do and who we help, I saw my reasoning a lot differently. I saw that I can change our surroundings and get people to come together. The best part was that it was through many different fun events. Another good thing about YAB is that it helps with public speaking and leadership skills. Here, no one is left behind!

Why you should join YAB

You should join YAB because it gives people the opportunity to help out in the community, and at the same time you get to meet new friends!
